This Cancer Treatment module consists of eight units. The Overview provides an overview of the whole module and introduces some important concepts regarding cancer treatment. The following units cover the major cancer treatment modalities: surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, biological therapy, combination treatments, subsequent therapy, and other therapies.

After completing this training module, you will be able to

  • Understand the key concepts related to cancer treatment, such as cancer-directed treatment, non-cancer directed treatment, and first-course treatment.
  • Name the major cancer treatment modalities and different types of each treatment.
  • Cite some important historical facts regarding the development and results of these treatments.
  • Describe the aims and characteristics of these treatments.
  • Name some of the drugs, and techniques, used in certain treatments.
  • Discuss some possible side effects of these treatments.
