- There will be cases for which sufficient evidence is not
available to adequately assign stage (Examples: Patient
expires before workup is completed, patient refuses procedure,
limited workup due to age or simultaneous contraindicating
condition).
- Assign "unstageable" or "not recorded" reluctantly. Contact
the physician to see if there is more information about
the case which is not in the record (diagnostic studies
performed prior to admission, and so forth).
- If sufficient information does not exist, do not guess.
There is no choice but to mark the case as unstageable.
