Urologic Terms

WHO/ISUP Consensus

The World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Society of Urologic Pathologists (ISUP) published a consensus paper in 1998 about proper terminology for various types of bladder tumors. ICD-O-3 has added their preferred terminology.

Code Description
8120/1 Transitional cell papilloma, NOS (C67._)
8120/2 Urothelial carcinoma in situ
8121/1 Transitional papilloma, inverted, NOS
8121/1 Columnar cell papilloma
8122/3 Transitional cell carcinoma, spindle cell
Transitional cell carcinoma, sarcomatoid

New Urologic Terms

There are many new synonyms for the papillary bladder tumors. Also important is that the code for PTCC, 8130/2 will be printed in ICD-O-3 and will not have to be created from the matrix principle. This should relieve some of the edit checks that result from non-invasive bladder tumor cases.

Code Description
8130/1 Papillary transitional cell neoplasm of low malignant potential (C67._)
Papillary urothelial neoplasm of low malignant potential (C67._)
