Review: Types of Registries
The Types of Registries section has provided you with information about the existing types of cancer registries, including population-based cancer registries, hospital-based cancer registries, special cancer registries, National Cancer Database, Pediatric Cancer Registries, Veterans Affairs Central Cancer Registry, and the Department of Defense Cancer Registry.
You have learned that the population-based registry has some advantages over other types because it serves a wider range of purposes. Data collected by population-based registries are used by physicians, researchers, medical students, and health care administrators alike. Research can be conducted based on an unbiased group of cases. In addition, using data collected from population-based cancer registries, allows for cancer control agencies and programs to make important decisions regarding the allocation of resources and prevention strategies.
