Incidence and Mortality
Prostate cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in American men. Although prostate cancer is most common in men over 65, it has been diagnosed in men as young as 40. Annually, approximately 314,000 new cases of prostate cancer are diagnosed.
Prostate cancer is the second most common cause of cancer death in American males and the leading cause of death in males over 85. This high mortality rate may be the results of late detection.
