Hormones
Hormone therapy for Prostate cancer is very common and used in several different ways.
- For patients who choose a radical prostatectomy and the tumor burden is large, hormone therapy may be given prior for a month or two to shrink the tumor.
- This is NOT neoadjuvant therapy. The intent of hormone therapy is not curative.
- Used to prevent cancer progression while the patient decides on which treatment option they will go with. Such decisions can take up to 8 months.
- Used as a radiosensitizer prior to radiation.
- Used as primary therapy for Stage III or Stage IV patients until there is disease progression.
- Used to treat patients who are symptomatic.
